In the past there have been two choices when that boor at the dinner table starts moaning about teachers, quoting that infamous Bernard Shaw line and going on about long holidays.

You either sit and fume and wish you had told them you were the CEO of Royal Bank of Scotland or something less controversial or stick the butter knife in the back of their hand and tell them that the doctor who stitches them up was taught by a teacher.

Now, there is a third, less messy but more powerful option.

Have a look here (and apologies if you have already seen this – we only came across it at the weekend) and memorise this wonderful poem from slam poet and teacher Taylor Mali.

And then wait for the next opportunity at dinner party and let them have it. Both barrels.

Let us know how you get on.
